Background / Objective

In 2018, the WHOhas published a model list of essential in vitro diagnostics, a catalogue ofthe tests needed to diagnose the most common conditions as well as a number ofglobal priority diseases.

The new Essential Diagnostics List (EDL) is intendedto be used as a reference for (developing) countries to update or develop theirown list of essential diagnostics that should be widely available, accessible,and affordable throughout health systems.

A criticalcomponent to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC), is the access toessential products, including diagnostic tests.

Testing is crucial for qualityhealthcare and to ensure the optimal use of essential medicines, to detectoutbreaks, and to have robust surveillance systems for antimicrobial resistanceand pandemics.

The objectives ofthis project are to support the development of the national EDL throughthe implementation of a survey and development of the 1st draft EDL.


  • Tofacilitate a workshop to train volunteers to implement the survey tool at State level
  • Toimplement the survey tool in 2 States
  • Toprovide technical expertise to analysis the data collected from the survey tool
  • Torapporteur 2 workshops with national stakeholders to develop the EDL
  • Tosupport the drafting of the 1st draft of the national EDL
  • RequiredSkills, Qualifications, and Experience

  • University degree in Medicine, Life Science, Medical Virology from an accredited / recognized institute
  • Certified training orqualification in molecular biology, virology,bacteriology, infectiousdiseases, and / or epidemiology and laboratory techniques
  • Advanced university degree in Public Health,or other health related degree is an asset
  • At least 2 years experience establishingor improving laboratory infrastructure for microbiology and / or detection ofinfectious diseases.

    Experience in planning and implementing laboratory trainings atnational and regional levels.
