We are looking for an Agricultural Technical Adviser (ATA) in a consultancy role for an agricultural project, implemented by TechnoServe.

Scope of Work

TechnoServe Nigeria, works with donors to implement projects in various locations across, the North, South and Western states of Nigeria.

Reporting to the Country Director (CD) and working closely with the Business Development Manager in Nigeria, Business Development support team in West Africa as well as the Nigeria program team and the Prosper Cashew management team, the ATA will be responsible for providing sound agriculture technical advice in business development and projects implementation.

While the consultant can work remotely, there may be possibilities of travels, though minimal.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities :

In addition to the general duties described above, specific duties and responsibilities include the following :

  • Carry out a mapping of the Cashew value chain to compile information on actors (processors, traders, large farms, policy makers, influencers, etc) in the value chain and verify existing information on processors Deliverable : A stakeholder map for the Cashew Value Chain in Nigeria within one month of fully executing contractUpdated processor landscape within two weeks from fully executing contract
  • Engage with the relevant government officials in the top 5 cashew producing states in Nigeria to ascertain the opportunities, challenges, incentives from government, potential activities with the states.
  • The Consultant is also expected to engage with MDAs at the Federal Government levels that are positioned to add value to the Prosper Cashew project Deliverables : Report outlining the actors in the states and Federal Government, the current policies affecting production, processing, export and financing of cashew as well as the opportunities for Prosper Cashew.

    Delivered within one month of resumption.

  • Attend all Business Development meetings and support the team in coming up with innovative ideas and solutions in addressing the agriculture value chain being undertaken
  • Support the Country Director and New Business Development team in donor intelligence gathering, analysis and engagement
  • Deliverables : Weekly meeting notes
  • Provide program implementation advisory including technical guidance to program staff, ensuring that the program’s technical approach, methodologies, and activities are technically sound, feasible and contribute to the success of the program
  • Any other functions that maybe required of the consultant related to their scope of engagement
  • Required Skills & Experience :

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • 5-10 years of experience carrying out related tasks
  • Good knowledge and experience of the Cashew value chain and at least two other agricultural value chains
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with agricultural donor agencies or units
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of agricultural program implementation processes and structures
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and strategy skills
  • Ability to apply innovative thinking approaches to problem solving is desirable.
  • Time Frame

    This consultancy is for an initial period of Three (3) months to deliver on these tasks as mentioned above with possibilities of an extension.

    Deadline for application : February 15th, 2021 17h00 WAT. The successful expert will be expected to commence work from the 1st week of March
