Toprovide technical support to the country in strengthening availability and useof data for malaria decisions / actions that contribute to the reduction ofmalaria morbidity and mortality.


Underthe direct supervision of the WR, the technical officer will :

Strengthennational malaria surveillance systems including other systems for generation ofstrategic information for evidence-

based targeting of malaria interventions forenhanced malaria burden reduction, through adoption, adaptation and applicationof relevant WHO norms and standards, guidelines, manuals and tools andappropriate technologies and e-platforms

Buildcapacity on use of surveillance and other health data for malaria risk mappingat national and sub-national levels

Guideevidence-based targeting of high risk areas with appropriate antimalarialinterventions; Monitor the impact of such interventions at subnational levelswith the aim of adapting strategies for enhanced impact

Contributeto documentation and publication of best practices on use of available evidencefor targeting interventions at national and subnational levels

Undertakeany other functions assigned

Facilitateevidence-based policy and strategic dialogue involving national policy makersand partners at national level as a process for monitoring the implementationof malaria strategies, discussing capacity gaps and planning for effectiveimplementation of malaria control and elimination


Essential : Advanced University degree plus postgraduate master’sdegree in medical epidemiology, biostatistics or Public Health or otherrelevant health related fields.

Desirable : Masters degree or PHD in malariology orcommunicable diseases epidemiology.


Essential : Fiveyears of experience in the development and evaluation of national diseasesurveillance systems.

Desirable : Atleast five years working experience in malaria control programme or malariaresearch at international level including experience working in WHO would be anasset

Use of language skills

Essential : Expert knowledge of English.


Specific skills required :

  • Broadknowledge of the principles and practices of communicable disease epidemiologywith specificexperience in malaria surveillance and operational research
  • Provenexperience in the development and evaluation of systems, policies, strategies,guidelines and tools for malaria control and / or elimination
  • Provenskills and knowledge in the development and evaluation of disease surveillancesystems in a public health setting
  • Demonstratedskills in capacity building especially training of health workers
  • Presentationand communication skills
