DAI is accepting applications from qualified Chief of Party (Project Director / Team Leader) candidates for the anticipated Zambia Business Enabling Project (BEP).

BEP is a five-year activity to deliver technical assistance to achieve the primary objective of catalyzing greater gender equality and inclusive private sector investment and trade in rural areas by strengthening select Zambian government and civil society organizations to implement improved and streamlined policies and processes for economically viable and gender balanced rural enterprises.

The project will also support the creation of an enabling environment that incentivizes productive investments in trade, agriculture, energy, eco- tourism and sustainable natural resource management.

Duties and Responsibilities

The COP will be responsible for overall project management and leadership; development and implementation of work plans, operational budgets and performance monitoring plans, coordination with USAID, government officials, other donors and partner organizations, and ensuring achievement of project results and objectives.

The COP will ensure compliance with USAID rules and regulations and DAI policies.

Preferred qualifications :

Qualified COP candidates will have a mix of experience that illustrates technical expertise, knowledge of the regional context, and experience managing large donor-funded programs, including :

  • Substantial prior experience working on USAID and / or donor-funded projects, with deep knowledge of USAID and / or donor operations, priorities, and programming
  • Prior Chief of Party (Team Leader or Project Director) experience leading and managing complex business enabling environment and / or competitiveness projects
  • At least ten to fifteen years’ experience related to business enabling environment reform, institutional strengthening, private sector competitiveness, and trade and investment promotion
  • Experience maintaining productive relationships with government, the private sector and civil society stakeholders
  • Experience in successful stakeholder capacity building
  • An advanced degree in Economics, Business Administration or related field
  • Demonstrated outstanding interpersonal, communications (both oral and writing), and presentation / facilitation skills
  • Prior work experience in Zambia and Southern Africa is preferred
