Description of Duties

  • Support the Project Manager in the day-to day implementation of ILO’s activities under the Project, including administrative and financial coordination with the PMU, the ILO Country Office in Abuja, the ECOWAS, and other stakeholders.
  • Review and analyse country specific development plans and priorities on labour migration and counter-trafficking issues and other relevant information and provide written analysis on the findings to the ILO Project Manager.
  • Assist the Project Manager in ensuring the effective implementation of the project activities through timely provision of technical inputs, preparation of progress and ad-
  • hoc reports, briefs, terms of reference, background information, and revision of studies, timely and efficient delivery of outputs.

  • Assist the Project Manager in monitoring the progress of the project and facilitating the evaluation of all project’s components according to the project’s document and work plan
  • Contribute to the backstopping and monitoring of project activities and draft portions of periodic and ad-hoc reports on the status of programme planning and implementation.
  • Provide programming and administrative support to the project; prepare budget estimates and expenditure forecasts.
  • Participate in the preparation (planning, organisation, facilitation) of conferences, seminars, workshops, training sessions and meetings.
  • Participate in policy dialogue and technical consultations and undertake mission to project sites.
  • Establish and develop information systems covering ILO technical activities under the project and economic and social issues of relevance to the project, and establish coordination with concerned ILO departments and programmes.
  • Update the ILO Office in Abuja, the ILO DWT in Dakar, and the ILO headquarters about the implementation of project activities.
  • Under the overall technical guidance of the Project Manager and the Office Director, t he official will also be the ILO focal point on the human trafficking component of the Support to free movement of persons and migration in West Africa project and will undertake the following tasks :

    Education

    First level university in geography, economics, social sciences, or related field and strong knowledge human trafficking or migration.

    Experience

    At least three years of professional experience in programme development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and / or project management

    Languages

    Excellent knowledge of English, knowledge of French language will be an added asset.

    Competencies

    Good knowledge of programme and budget, project formulation, administration and evaluation techniques and practices. Sound knowledge of the role and operations of UN system activities for development.

    Knowledge of the ILO’s financial rules and regulations. Knowledge of office-wide activities and priorities.Ability to perform a variety of conceptual analyses required for the formulation, administration and evaluation of projects.

    Excellent drafting skills.Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.Excellent analytical skills.Ability to justify requirements and approaches to problem resolution and ability to negotiate.

    Good computer applications skills. Good organizational skills. Ability to work on own initiative as well as a member of a team.

    Ability to deal with people with tact and diplomacy. Ability to work in multi- cultural and diverse environment. Ability to supervise staff.
