Position Summary :

The Chief of Party provides overall technical and administrative leadership and expertise for the Nigeria Education Initiative (NEI activity) and serves as the primary liaison with USAID / Nigeria on management and technical matters.

S / he will be responsible for the overall management implementation of the activity and report directly to the designated USAID Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR).

Reporting & Supervision :

The COP will report directly to the project director at headquarters and will supervise project staff.

Primary Responsibilities :

S / he will supervise activity implementation and ensure the activity meets stated goals and reporting requirements.

The COP will take a leadership role in coordination among USAID and key stakeholders, including DFID and the Global Partnership for Education, and other implementing partners.

The COP position requires political savvy, as s / he will interact with numerous Gov’t of Nigeria institutions and senior-

level national and county-level gov’t officials.

The COP will have demonstrated ability to work in complex, politically charged, unstable environments, work across different cultures, and manage diverse teams to impact within agreed timelines.

  • Required Skills & Qualifications :

    Requires a Masters’ degree in education or a directly relevant field from an accredited university.

    Demonstrated progressive experience in management and oversight of programs that are of a similar scope, size and complexity to this activity.

    Demonstrated experience in the education sector in Sub-Saharan Africa is required, with a focus in project designs, policy dialogue, strategic planning and implementation, education reform and national-

    level quality improvement.

    Technical experience in early grade reading, education in conflict-affected, or addressing high drop-out rates is highly encouraged.

    The candidate must be professionally proficient and fluent in written and spoken English.
