DAI’s Sustainable Business Group (SBG) supports private companies to be smarter corporate citizens in their local business operations and assists public authorities to develop policy, regulation, and incentives that grow sustainable industries.

Function of the Position

This is a full-time, professional position that will contribute to the DAI Sustainable Business Group (DAI SBG). DAI SBG is seeking a well-

organized, highly motivated individual to work as a core member of its home office team and as a Team Leader or full-time staff member on high-

profile strategic client-funded programs. This individual will be fully dedicated to a 3-year program to manage an Enterprise Development Center in Mozambique.

Qualified candidates will have practical technical expertise in private sector consulting, extractive industries, enterprise development, and local content.

Proven experience providing consulting services, leading complex technical assignments, engaging corporate clients and writing winning proposals is required.

Fluency or proficiency in Portuguese is also a requisite.

Roles and Responsibilities

The percentages below are illustrative and may evolve and / or change depending on the company’s needs. Specific responsibilities will include :

1. Project Lead for Mozambique Enterprise Development Center (90%)

  • Long-term SBG project lead (EDC Manager) for the Mozambique Enterprise Development Center a 3-year initiative that will act as a hub of local content expertise that will drive the development of local enterprises in the supply chain, improve the workforce, and create business linkages across all growth sectors
  • Manage project team comprised of disparate entities and employees (DAI, EDC staff employed by a local firm, and staff hired by the local entity created to manage the project)
  • Manage project budgets and client relationships
  • Manage technical delivery of industrial baseline studies, local content reporting tool, multi-stakeholder workshops, supplier development programs, communications, and any / all other technical aspects of the project
  • Interface directly with the client in Maputo to coordinate requests
  • Directly oversee the Coordinators of the Maputo, Pemba, and Palma offices; coordinate technical and operational activities across 3 project hubs
  • Point of contact for DAI staff regarding any / all issues and concerns
  • Ensure all deliverable deadlines are met in a timely manner
  • Lead transition of the project from fully client-funded to self-sustaining
  • Help design and shape sustainability initiatives that ensure successful program continuation post funding
  • 2. Cross-Corporate Initiatives (10%)

  • Provide feedback to DAI and lead trainings on technical approaches, methodologies, and client insights
  • Present results of technical work at conferences or other public events
  • Mentor other staff
  • Participate in cross-sector process improvement and strategic planning teams
  • Serve as a technical bridge / knowledge resource to share SBG’s experience with other DAI technical teams and ensure technical innovation from other DAI teams is brought back into SBG to enhance a cross-
  • corporate learning culture.

  • Contribute to SBG opportunity identification and business development efforts as relevant.
  • Additional responsibilities as deemed necessary.

    Minimum Qualifications :

  • Grade 11 : Minimum of eleven years of relevant professional experience and a bachelor’s degree; or nine years of relevant professional experience and a master’s degree
  • Demonstrated experience leading, designing, and evaluating multi-year and multi-million dollar projects
  • Minimum of five years of experience in private sector consulting, extractive industries, enterprise development, workforce development, and / or local content
  • Experience facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogue and working directly with government ministries
  • Diverse technical background
  • Strong knowledge of the oil & gas sector and renewable energy sector with an emphasis on the procurement, supply-chain management, workforce skills development, supplier development and policy / regulations
  • Strong quantitative skills; experience conducting industrial baseline studies a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a rapidly changing environment
  • Fluent in Portuguese
  • Knowledge of and experience working in Mozambique
