Food plant accountants ensure that these plants analyze budgets and costs to find ways to provide food products more efficiently.
These workers also utilize business-improvement strategies and work with advertising departments to make sure all departments stay within budgets and cost controls.
Plant accountants may work for small food production chains, restaurants or large, multi-million dollar food-manufacturing companies.
Daily Job Functions
As a food industry plant accountant, you present monthly actual and forecast expenditures, prepare business and budget plans, develop and modify record-keeping and accounting systems, track cost reductions and ensure operations are in compliance with government regulations.
You oversee and maintain the payroll structure and analyze costs and overhead, such as raw materials for making food products, as well as examine market trends, such as consumer coupons and discounts.
You manage inventory control and examine financial statements and records for accuracy and completeness. These workers also monitor purchase orders and fixed assets within the company.
Candidates should possess a B.Sc qualification with at least 2 years experience.
