Job Description

Our client is a leading Telecommunications company in Nigeria. They currently have an opening for a Chief Financial Officer .

General Responsibilities

  • Responsible in shaping overall strategy and direction that will drive sustainable growth, increase topline & bottom-line to increase value in setting the future direction of the company.
  • Key to developing and implementing strategy for the company and a great influencer during strategy planning to achieve its goals.

  • Drive the transformation journey of the company and build a digitalized organization and Finance Function that will drive and enhance value by using innovative insights (disruptive technologies) & harnessed data to disrupt the market & unleash new value for the Company.
  • Responsible for the development of a robust operational and financial strategy and metrics tied to the overall corporate strategy and the continuous monitoring and development of control systems designed to enhance and preserve shareholders’ value.
  • Provide overall guidance, leadership support and strategic direction to the Finance, Supply Chain Management, internal control and risk management functions of the company.

  • Operate and run a tight, efficient and effective finance organization. Champion the process of minimizing risk and effective book closing and internal control processes and procedures.
  • Has the primary responsibility to produce accurate and timely financial results; managing and running of all the finance activities of the company, including but not limited to business plan, budgeting, treasury, billing, credit controls, payable management, inventory and asset control, revenue assurance, financial planning, forecasting, analysis and negotiations in preserving the assets of the organization.

  • Provide financial leadership and align business and finance strategy to grow the business by contributing to the planning and execution of transactions.
  • This includes but not limited to mergers, acquisitions, corporate restructuring, capital raising, Capital market financing strategies and other long-term investments of the company to deliver benefits to the business to meet its strategic objective.

  • Work closely with the CEO and top management on the long-term strategic vision of the company including fostering and cultivating stakeholder’s relationship at different levels.
  • whilst providing support for the leadership of the different Divisions in executing the business strategy, driving change and initiatives for business improvement.

  • Responsible for coordinating the Annual Operating plans, resultant budgets and their periodic reviews : and instilling a financial approach and mind set throughout the organization to help other parts of the business perform better in creating wealth for all stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the business performance framework and risk management operations of the company by ensuring compliance with financial regulations, industry regulations and all other relevant regulations, and communicate value and risk issues to top management and the board.
  • Leadership Responsibilities

  • Must be knowledgeable, passionate and understand the strategic and tactical objectives of each line of Business as well as the group and the implications, identifying and resolving complex problems that may be associated with these objectives.
  • Serve as a strategic business leader and advisor, counselor, functional expert and thought partner to the Group MD, Board of Directors, and the Executive Leadership of the different Business Divisions.
  • Establish and maintain trusted relationships with the Board and other key stakeholders on all issues strategic or operational.
  • Oversee the health of the group’s financial systems, protecting the positive attributes and identifying issues that may require interventions.
  • Provide overall guidance, leadership support and strategic direction to the Finance, supply chain management, internal control and risk management functions of the organization.
  • Capability to design and establish effective scalable standard operating procedures and processes for new business and across the existing business lines.
  • Strategic Responsibilities

  • Develop, organize and evaluate the Group’s fiscal function and performance, including but not limited to its medium to long term (5-10 years) business plan.
  • Articulate the company’s financial strategies and ensure alignment with its strategic objectives.
  • Participate in the development of the Group’s overall strategic goals and ensure these are cascaded to the different Finance teams across the Group.
  • Responsible for coordinating the annual operating plan and oversee the preparation of the annual budget for the divisions and the group and monitor its implementation.
  • Responsible for developing, establishing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures, Controls, and Management Information Reporting, in line with best practices bearing in mind the future needs of a growing business rather than just the short term requirements;
  • and continually review and assess the effectiveness of same with a view to identifying improvement opportunities and proper compliance.

  • To assist in formulating the Company’s future direction and supporting tactical initiatives.
  • To analyze potential investment, manage risks strategically and objectively.
  • To drive fund raising initiatives.
  • Manage risks and returns on the Group’s financial resources, constantly seeking to maximize shareholders’ wealth.
  • Continually monitor, review, and implement approved amendments to the framework for delegation of authority across the organization.
  • Develop credibility for the Finance function by providing timely and accurate analysis of the budget, financial reports and trends assist the GMD, Board, top management, and the leadership of the different divisions and senior executives across the company.
  • Operational Duties

    Corporate Performance Management :

  • Take responsibility for financial reporting and analysis and setting performance indices, including recommendation of changes to improve systems and financial performance.
  • Responsible for the preparation of the Financial reports in line with the International Financial reporting standard (IFRS) and constantly keeping abreast of developments in the space.
  • Periodically review the Group’s key finance activities and performance reports and take appropriate action to ensure the Group’s business objectives are achieved.
  • Coordinate monitoring of business performance against agreed plans, targets and budgets.
  • Manage the periodic benchmarking of the business divisions and group’s performance against competition.
  • Implement Operational Best Practices :

  • Drive the automation of all Finance processes including but not limited to SCM, Internal control, risk and compliance and business performance management frameworks.
  • Implement a sophisticated reporting mechanism for completeness and accuracy in reporting
  • Drive initiatives to optimize cashflow
  • Establish, implement and drive effective and efficient revenue assurance framework and procedures.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting :

  • Coordinate the development of the Corporate Centre and Divisional budgets, and the allocation / distribution of financial resources.
  • Conduct budget reviews to ensure relevance, accuracy, timeliness and easy interpretation for management decision making.
  • Responsible for Forecasting, Investment Evaluation, Risk Management, Digital Transformation and Stewardship

    Cost Optimization :

  • Develop and implement detailed cost management strategies to monitor and control costs Group-wide.
  • Monitor the Group’s and divisional operating base costs and highlight factors impacting effective cost management, hence contributing towards the achieving low cost business environment.
  • Tax, Regulatory / Statutory Compliance :

  • Develop effective tax planning strategies and oversee the accurate and timely filing of all tax financial, industry and other regulatory returns.
  • Investor Relations :

  • Coordinate investor relations activities including preparation of investor communications and presentations.
  • Industry Knowledge & Trends :

  • Keep abreast of industry developments and trends and proactively ensure the adoption of relevant practices.
  • Supervisory, Reporting and Other Duties :

  • Authorize expenditure / transactions in line with the Group’s approved authority limits.
  • Oversee the production of periodic reports for use by the Board, as well as the Audit / Finance Committee and Executive Leadership of the different Business Divisions.
  • Act on behalf of, and perform any other duties that may be assigned by the GMD / CEO.
  • Requirements

    Education & Skill Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting / Economics / Banking and Finance or related field from a reputable institution
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business.
  • Professional qualification such as ICAN, ACA, ACCA
  • Previous Experience in a Capital Raising Function Is Required.
  • Must have had a good experience working within fast growing companies in developing markets. Telecoms sector would be an added advantage.
  • Must be knowledgeable in many aspects of business’s industry beyond Accounting / Finance.
  • Must be technologically savvy.
  • Knowledge of Financial management systems, accounting policies and standards; tax management, mergers, and acquisitions, costing accounting etc.
  • Qualified accountant with knowledge of IFRS accounting standards
  • Strategic orientation and successfully managed financial organization with comparative scale and complexity.
  • Treasury and Cash management experience is a must-have.
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel
  • Strong presentation and financial modeling skills
  • Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model
  • Job Requirements

  • Industry Experience : Banking, Corporate Financial Services, Investment Management.
  • Experience in Implementing ERP System
  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience.
  • 5 years at Board / Senior Management position
  • Deep understanding and experience with IT, Billing & accounting (ERP) software implementation and deployment is required.
  • Working knowledge of budgeting, planning, management accounting and corporate finance
