    Purpose for the Job

    Under the close supervision and guidance of the supervisor, the programme assistant supports the respective section by carrying out a range of procedural, administrative, and operational tasks, to help develop, implement and monitor their country programme, ensuring timely and effective delivery that is consistent with UNICEF rules and regulations.

    Key Functions, Accountability and Related Duties / Tasks

    Support to programme development, planning and execution :

    Compiles data and information on subject matters relevant to the work of the section to facilitate preparation of reports, working papers, and presentations.

    Prepares and maintains records pertaining to programme planning and development for his / her respective section.Carries out transactions in VISION ensuring programme results, activities and programme coding are as per annual work plans (AWPs), and makes amendments and alterations as per section revisions when necessary.

    Arranges meetings, workshops and training courses pertaining to programme development, and provides support in making the necessary logistical arrangements.

    Follows up both internally with the supply section and externally with counterparts to ensure supplies for programme implementation are delivered in a timely and accurate manner.

    Support to monitoring and reporting of programme results :

    Provides support on budget revision / preparation, implementation status, determination position of funding utilization, and financial closures.

    Monitors budgets and financial expenditures of section, ensuring compliance with UNICEF rules and regulations, keeping supervisor informed and advised on actions for decision and follow up.

    Prepares and maintains records, documents and control plans for the monitoring of project / programme implementation.

    Support in resource mobilization :

    Compiles and organizes information and data pertaining to donors (both current and potential). Compiles and organizes data and information to assist in the preparation of periodic or ad-

    hoc financial reports relating to country office and donors to support the office in optimizing use of programme funds.Carries out transactions in VISION pertaining to grants for his / her section such as registering grant allotments and tracking expiring programme grants.

    Supports the processing of contracts for consultants and external partners pertaining to the section.

    Support in knowledge management and capacity building :

    Gathers and shares information as needed in support of improving the processes and daily operations of the section.Supports capacity development activities related to performance monitoring, programme development, and related internal UNICEF systems / tools by drafting necessary correspondence, compiling data reports and maintaining relevant records.

    Qualifications and Competencies

    Education :

    Completion of Secondary Education is required, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to the work of the organization.

    Experience :

    A minimum of five years of progressively responsible administrative or clerical work experience is required.

    Language Requirements :

    Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language or local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.

    Support in resource mobilization :

    Qualifications and Competencies Required

    Education :

    Contract Duration : Contract will be for a total duration of 11 months

    Purpose for the Job

    Under the supervision of the Chief of Communications, with reporting line to the WASH Specialist, the communication consultant (national of Nigeria) will develop and ensure effective implementation of the Open Defecation Free Nigeria communication campaign of UNICEF Nigeria.

    More specifically, the consultant will be responsible for providing visibility to activities and results in a timely and efficient manner.

    The consultant will develop communication materials to support advocacy needs of the WASH Section of UNICEF Nigeria.The consultant will also develop and promote stories, including human interest stories and other materials for sharing with partners.

    The consultant will also organize and support field visits of journalists of media professional to ensure visibility of activities and project results.

    Scope

  • The Consultant will be based in the UNICEF Nigeria Country Office, Abuja and will work closely with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources;
  • the Media; Communication agencies as well as UNICEF National and Field Office colleagues.The tasks will involve travelling to States, LGAs and Communities for consultation with relevant government partners and UNICEF colleagues.

    Major Tasks to be Accomplished

    Under the supervision of the Communication Section, and in close coordination with the WASH Specialist, the consultant will work in UNICEF Abuja, with field visits to UNICEF Field Offices.

    The Communication consultant will be accountable for and carry out the following task in fulfilling the expectations of this post :

    Develop and lead implementation of communication plan for End Open Defecation in Nigeria communication campaign : Develop the communication plan through a participatory processBased on the communication plan, design and finalize effective advocacy and communication materials for the campaign, and other needs of WASH section.

    Work with technical colleagues to identify gaps in information required for visibility and ensure those gaps are adequately filledSupport the development of quality communication materials (leaflets, radio, video clips and TV spots etc.

  • for promoting key advocacy messagesUndertake other relevant tasks such as language-editing of technical reports, policy briefs and briefing notesUse of social media, video, photography to document to share project successesWrite and finalize human interest storiesSupport documentation for visibility of the WASH activities and results for advocacy : Provide inputs on communication activities for donor reports, ensuring accurate and timely submissionDevelop communication products (presentations, human interest stories, and social media posts);

    Qualifications or specialized knowledge / experience required

    Education :

    Advanced degree in communication, journalism, mass-media, advertising, public relations, or related field. In the absence of advance degree, additional 3 years of experience will be necessary.

    Experience :

    At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in communication, journalism, advertisement, creative writing or external relationsExperienced in planning and rolling out communication campaignsExperienced with communicating using social media platforms.

    Experienced with planning and executing work-plans.Strong writing and analytical skills using diverse tools and computer applications.

    Language :

    Fluency in English language and writing skills.
