Job Description

  • Responsible for the accuracy of accounting records, ensuring the adherence by constituent operations to group policies or to motivate policy changes when they are no longer appropriate.
  • Prepare, review and modify company policies as necessary in conjunction with the Boards of Directors
  • Comply with deadlines for monthly reporting, annual budgeting and strategic planning requirements and ensure that they completed on time and at appropriate level of quality on an ongoing basis
  • Ensuring that adequate controls exist over payments and receipts in order to manage cash flows optimally
  • Ensure that the outstanding debtors are recovered and minimizing the recovery risk relating accounts receivable by adhering to the group’s credit policy
  • Ensuring that the creditor’s terms are optimized
  • Review all capex applications in respect of all financial aspects ensuring that quotes for all capex purchases are obtained, covering payment terms, making sure that accounting and costing systems relating to large capex projects are constantly reviewed
  • Ensure that all borrowings are within the limit approved by the Board of Directors
  • Control and report on expenditure
  • Control the cash management function
  • Develop and execute plans for continuous improvement especially in the area of Working capital Management
  • Ensure that the company affairs are managed in a manner that attracts the minimum tax liability i.e. Income tax, VAT, duties, capital gain tax etc.
  • Liaise with Group Accountant on all contentious tax issue to ensure that the above objective is achieved
  • Ensure that the accounting systems are adequate for proper completion of VAT returns.
  • Review the internal controls in the company on an annual basis and initiate formal actions to correct identified deficiencies
  • Liaise closely with the internal and external auditors to ensure that work is properly planned, including the upfront negotiation of the audit fee
  • Strive towards obtaining clean internal and external audit reports and ensure that prompt action is taken in areas where weak controls and / or non-
  • compliance are indicated

  • Consider increasing the scope of Information Technology utilization beyond pure accounting and also identify how IT can be used as a strategic tool to gain competitive advantage.
  • Accept joint responsibility with operational management for the adequacy of cover and the implementation of effective loss control
  • Ensure that all appropriate statutory requirement applicable to the company are complied with in conjunction with Nampak Management services (e.
  • g. RSC / PAYE / licensing and registration)

  • Any other ad hoc duty assigned by the reporting
  • Job Requirements

  • University Degree in Accounting, preferably a CA / CIMA or equivalent
  • 7-10 years’ cognate experience preferably in a manufacturing company
  • Good knowledge in Accounting, especially in a manufacturing environment
  • Leadership, Managerial and Organizational skills
  • Possess advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Excel skills
  • Adaptable and self-driven
  • Investigative intelligence
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Have good interpersonal relationships and analytical skills
  • Have a high level of accuracy and pay great attention to detail
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
